The Yaroslavl hockey team “Lokomotiv” was able to win a strong-willed victory over its principal rival, St. Petersburg SKA. The statistics of previous meetings were not in favor of Lokomotiv. But the “railroad” were able to turn the tide in their favor.
Guests opened the scoring in the first period, in the third minute of the match. But already in the middle of the first segment of the game, in the thirteenth minute of the match, Maxim Shalunov was able to equalize the score with a pass from Arthur Kayumov.
In the second period, Lokomotiv hockey players were able to break through the defense and the visiting goalkeeper twice more. First, Andrei Sergeev, with Shalunov’s serve, and then Denis Alekseev, with Likhachev’s serve, “upset” the SKA goalkeeper.
Until the end of the second period, SKA converted the majority and were able to slightly reduce the gap in the score.
The third period passed without changes. Lokomotiv had one unfortunate removal. But during this time, those who remained on the field did not allow the guests to realize the majority. Before the end of the match, SKA coach Rotenberg called a timeout and removed the goalkeeper, bringing 6 players onto the field in order to even the score and send the game into overtime. But the trick didn’t work out – the score remained unchanged – 3-2 and Lokomotiv won in regular time.
Next, the “railway workers” will have a long travel period.
