“Loboda’s fate”: why Anna Veski has not appeared in Russia since the beginning of the Northern Military District

Her accent was perceived as a distortion of the Russian language

Anne Veski does not appear in Russia after the start of the SVO. Now the Soviet pop star sings exclusively in his homeland, Estonia. Concert producer Sergei Lavrov understands why the singer of the hit “A Sharp Turn Behind” does not come to Moscow. Sergei believes that Anna Veski suffered the same fate as Loboda.

“Anne Veski has not been in demand in Russia in recent years: she performed only in group concerts, like the disco of the 80s,” says Sergei. – When I was there, and I’ve been in show business for 27 years, she didn’t tour particularly actively, like, for example, Laima Vaikule.

“Anne is not a bad person in herself, unlike her colleague from Latvia,” continues Lavrov. – She is not conflicting. I personally have never heard her speak badly about Russians. But it so happened that people didn’t really come to see it. Anna just has a specific accent. Many perceived this as a distortion of the Russian language.

Lavrov believes that it was precisely because of the lack of demand in Russia that Veski stopped appearing in Moscow. In order not to once again anger local nationalists, who, even without trips to Russia, do not give her a quiet life in Estonia. The star is regularly persecuted for singing songs in Russian. Veski, they say, can’t get used to this.

“Now nationalists are persecuting everyone for the Russian language,” Lavrov is sure. – This is why Loboda, by the way, did not take root in Ukraine. She has no hits in Ukrainian. If there are any songs, then they are in a broken language. Because Loboda doesn’t really know Ukrainians. She is now in a generally unenviable position. Loboda does not have “reserves”, corporate events, from which she earned huge money. Ukraine does not order it – Ukrainian oligarchs are not throwing a feast for the whole world now. And for our people, inviting Loboda even to a corporate event abroad is suicide. She tries to survive by staging box-office concerts. I recently performed somewhere in Thailand – I’m watching a video from the concert, it’s just a barn. This is not like before, when she collected the best concert venues in Moscow. In Thailand, everything was modest for her. Now she doesn’t ask for a new second kettle. By the way, I don’t think that Anne Veski has a lot of work and reserves in Estonia either. They perform wherever necessary.
