Valentin Yudashkin and Vyacheslav Zaitsev left two days apart. Mystical coincidence or couturier to stay on this earth did not make sense?

Stylist Vladislav Lisovets – about the departure of fashion mastodons.

Two pages of Russian fashion have turned over this week. On April 30, Vyacheslav Zaitsev passed away. Following him, on May 2, Valentin Yudashkin left.

– Two Russian couturiers left one after another. Maybe this symbolizes that no one needs fashion in Russia now?

– No matter how sad it was, but you voiced an important thing – now Russia is not up to fashion, – says Lisovets. – Unfortunately, the country is in a strange state after the coronavirus and recent events. It would seem that now, more than ever, people need fashion, it helps to believe, but it is not there. And when two bright representatives of beauty leave, the country is left without a reference point in this area. I can’t try to explain this coincidence. But the beauty is gone.

– Don’t you think that fashion in Russia ended when the window to Europe slammed before our designers?

– To be honest, we were not really expected there. Our fashion is still secondary. We do something only for our local market. The Russians are a specific people, with a specific taste. Many do not understand and do not accept fashion trends at all. People don’t want to live for today. Therefore, we are in demand for designers who make clothes that are understandable, brilliant, and not revolutionary. The other public does not want to accept. Accordingly, in the west we were just for show. Although Valentin Yudashkin arranged shows there. It was thanks to him that at least somehow they said that fashion exists in Russia. Today we are on our own. Although we have many young excellent designers, they cannot become mastodons. In Russia, a person can become famous, whose work is understandable to the majority. And fashion is not exactly clear to Russians. So for now this place remains completely empty.

– Were you familiar with Yudashkin?

– Yes, we knew each other. Despite his illness, he looked good and was always smiling. Valentin gave the impression of a neat, intelligent person – this is part of his image. He seemed to be taking more care of himself lately to look pretty. Therefore, no one, being next to him, perceived him as a seriously ill person. Valentin did well.

– But the noticeably ill Vyacheslav Zaitsev was dragged to events, which looked, to put it mildly, strange?

– I knew Vyacheslav much closer than I knew Valentin. Speaking globally, Zaitsev is not a businessman. He is like a child, pure, sincere, kind. I trusted others until the last day. It is these people who most often fall into circulation, “flies” often circle around them. As for his release, I don’t think he was forced out. Vyacheslav wanted to shine in society, he was used to being recognizable, he loved being photographed with him. I saw him quite often in recent years and noticed that despite his condition, he still remained positive and light. It didn’t seem to me that the publications were forced on him.

– Maybe Zaitsev just did not understand what was happening?

– I think he understood everything. It’s just that in old age we all become children. He thought that the light would come out, everyone would start taking pictures with him. He did not look at what was happening from the side. He was always smart, did not make a miserable impression. In any case, I have not seen him in a crazy inadequate state.

– Do you agree that the fashionable age of Zaitsev and Yudashkin has long passed?

– There is a leader for every quarter of a century. Zaitsev was once good in his style. Then the fashion changed, other trends were required. Yudashkin appeared. Now, against the background of Yudashkin, other designers look more relevant. No matter how sad it may sound, but the time of Zaitsev and Yudashkin is gone. The trend has changed a lot. Many fashion houses recruit young guys into teams to change the style. Although there are also brands in the West that have stopped and revolve around what was in demand 30 years ago. Yudashkin, as a creative person, could not suddenly turn his brand into some kind of trendy street style. He stuck to luxury, he liked it. But the fashion of the 2000s for super-luxury is gone. Of course, Yudashkin also had second clothing lines and Yudashkin Jeans, but it’s impossible to say that these are super fashionable things. Beautiful, good, but no longer about fashion, this is already a classic.

– Will you go to the couturier’s funeral?

– I can not. I am not in Moscow.
