Liren defeated Nepomniachtchi in a tie-break to become the 17th World Chess Champion
Chinese Ding Liren defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi and became the 17th world chess champion.
The grandmaster beat the Russian in the world championship match. Overall score: 7:7, score in tie-break – 2.5:1.5 in favor of the Chinese.
The title of World Chess Champion has been officially awarded since 1886. Ding Liren became the first representative of his country to win the match for the chess crown.
From 1993 to 2006, the title of world champion was played in two versions: FIDE and PCA.
