Twelve thousand dollars were raised at an auction in Uruguay for a letter from a Titanic passenger that he sent to his family shortly before the disaster. Author – Ramon Gomez. Together with the message, his photograph, which was taken in 1909, was also sold.
The letter was three pages long and handwritten. He was sent from Ireland on April 12 – this is the date of the last stop of the liner before entering the Atlantic Ocean.
Recall that the Titanic sank on April 14, 1912. It was the largest liner of its time and it was its first flight. The ship was on its way from Southampton to New York. In the Atlantic Ocean, he collided with an iceberg and sank in just two hours. 1.5 thousand people died. The wreckage of the ship was found at the bottom in 1985.
