The death of the brilliant Gina Lollobrigida in Russian show business caused most of all the regrets of Valery Leontiev – not everyone knows that the stars of the Russian stage and Italian cinema were connected by friendship.
It originated back in the 90s, when Lollobrigida flew to St. Petersburg to participate in the cultural program of the Goodwill Games and appeared in Valery Leontiev’s solo concert at the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall. The musical performance “Casanova and the Beauty” caused a frantic delight of the public. Then Valery Leontiev made a chic gift for the star guest of his concert – he performed the famous Neapolitan song, known in Russia as “Tell the girl to your girlfriend”, written in 1930 by the Italian composer Rodolfo Falvo, Russian text by M. Ulitsky. “If it weren’t for Gina, I probably wouldn’t have dared to do this,” the artist joked.
Leontiev and Lollobrigida spent part of their free time together. According to eyewitnesses, the idol of millions of Russians, who feels at home in St. Petersburg, showed the Hermitage to the great Italian actress. Valery was very worried that Gina did not catch the legendary St. Petersburg white nights (her arrival came in July), but the Italian herself assured that the nights were “still quite white.”
The idea of the meeting between Leontiev and Lollobrigida belonged to the director of the Oktyabrsky concert hall, Emma Vasilievna Lavrinovich, a brilliant expert in the cultural life of the city, who knew perfectly well how (and with whom) to surprise the famous Italian. Leontiev himself said that he was “agitated before he met Gina, because her image — mythical, legendary, almost unreal — was made up of screen versions of this woman, and a man came who, as it seemed to me, had nothing to do with the image of a star, created over many years in world cinema. That is, Lollobrigida on the screen is a shining star, but in life he is a sweet, extremely charming, simple and cordial person.
Today Valery Leontiev sincerely experiences the death of his old friend.
It is hard to believe that a person could be so generously endowed and at the same time love and be able to work. Everything she undertook worked out, and it turned out great.
