Leningrad schoolchildren will start playing bast shoes at physical education lessons

In Russian schools, it is planned to add a course on bast shoes as part of a physical education lesson. Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee of the Leningrad Region Elena Boytsova spoke about the purchase of equipment, reports “MK in the Leningrad region”.

So, every year, funds are allocated from the budget of the committee for training expenses. The Lapta module is already included in the program of physical education lessons. Because of this, all the necessary equipment will be purchased at the expense of subventions.

Lapta or cotton is a Russian folk game with a bat and a ball. The rules of the game are similar to cricket and baseball. Under Peter the Great, bast shoes were used as physical training for the Preobrazhensky regiments and the Semenovsky regiment.
