The Council of the State Duma withdrew from consideration the bill of the Ministry of Education on a new procedure for adoption and guardianship, which was planned to be considered in the first reading on Tuesday. Officials were going to introduce a psychological examination for all candidates for adoptive parents, including relatives. The head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy Yaroslav Nilov, explaining the reasons for the decision to postpone, told Kommersant that the deputies received “many appeals” with a request “not to adopt the law.” According to the deputy, “taking into account what is happening in the country and the world,” the issue of the adoption of orphans “can only get worse,” so the relevant bill should be clearly worked out. The Federation Council did not support the project either, said Senator Andrei Klishas.
