LDPR about Aleksey Zhuravlev’s threats to a German journalist: death threats are not our method

The LDPR responded to a statement by State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev (chairman of the Motherland party, member of the LDPR faction), in which he threatened to kill a representative of the German press. In the faction of the party declaredthat these words of Mr. Zhuravlev are his private opinion, and death threats are not the method of the Liberal Democratic Party. Aleksey Zhuravlev’s statements will be discussed at the next meeting of the LDPR faction in September.

The LDPR emphasized that Mr. Zhuravlev himself expressed a desire to join the faction of the party in September 2021, but he did not join full-fledged factional activities.

The faction stated that the words of Alexei Zhuravlev regarding the murder of a German journalist contradict the position of the Liberal Democratic Party, which adheres to the rule of law. “We leave out of the brackets the assessment of the methods of conducting the information war of the German Bild, but threats to kill, especially representatives of the press, are definitely not our method,” the LDPR faction said.

Mr. Zhuravlev, on the air of the 60 Minutes program on the Russia 1 TV channel, called the German journalist a Natsik and threatened to kill him. This is how Alexei Zhuravlev reacted to the criticism of the German Bild towards the 60 Minutes program.

TV program host Yevgeny Popov (State Duma deputy, United Russia) responded to Mr. Zhuravlev’s words that “you don’t have to kill anyone.”
