Lawyer Sobchak denied that she had the status of a suspect

Journalist Ksenia Sobchak does not and never had the status of a suspect in the case of extortion of 11 million rubles. at the general director of Rostec Sergey Chemezov, her lawyer Sergey Badamshin said, citing the materials of the investigation.

He noted that “only 2 persons” were involved as suspects in the case. The defendants in this case are commercial director Sobchak Kirill Sukhanov and ex-editor-in-chief of Tatler Arian Romanovsky. They are charged with paragraph “b” of Part 3 of Art. 163 of the Criminal Code (extortion on an especially large scale, up to 15 years in prison). The defendants were arrested until December 24.

Earlier it was reported that the investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation canceled the earlier decision to involve the journalist Ksenia Sobchak as a suspect. As reported, law enforcement agencies also suspected Sobchak of involvement in extortion. Searches were carried out in the Sobchak mansion, she herself left the territory of the Russian Federation on the passport of an Israeli citizen.

It also became known that a pre-investigation check could be carried out against Sobchak if it turned out that she had not notified the migration service that she had Israeli citizenship. A criminal case may be initiated against the journalist under article 330.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: “Failure to fulfill the obligation to notify a citizen of the Russian Federation of citizenship of a foreign state.” The maximum penalty under this article is up to 400 hours of compulsory work.
