Law on ‘LGBT propaganda’ does not ban rainbows, Khinshtein says

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein said that the law banning LGBT propaganda does not apply to the word “rainbow” if it is a seven-color symbol. So the parliamentarian commented on the decision of the leadership of the theater festival of the same name to change the name of the event.

Earlier, users noticed that the specified festival on its website became known as the International Theater Festival of the Bryantsev Theater for Young Spectators. The head of the theater and festival, Svetlana Lavretsova, said that the final decision had not yet been made, but due to changes in the legislation, “the word “rainbow” was removed from the name ahead of time.” “We don’t want to look like those who promote LGBT people, – leads RBC quote. – On the one hand, we observe how insanity it comes <...> On the other hand, it is our brand.”

“Our laws in no way prohibit or abolish the rainbow,” Khinshtein wrote on the social network, specifying that he meant a natural rainbow, and not a “castrated” LGBT symbol, where there is no blue color.

Khinshtein also stressed that the law also does not threaten the Blue Puppy cartoon.

Earlier, the mayor of Omsk, Sergei Shelest, said that he was “embarrassed by the color scheme of birds” in a project with multi-colored pigeons, which a local artist wanted to place on the embankment in the city. “I don’t want to be a mayor who promotes LGBT people,” the official said. The authors of the project subsequently stated that now the designers are looking for a solution “that will suit everyone.”
