Lavrov will head the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly in September

The Russian delegation to the 78th session of the UN General Assembly will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. His candidacy as part of the delegation was approved by President Vladimir Putin. The order was published on the official portal legal information.
“To approve the following composition of the delegation of the Russian Federation for participation in the work of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly: Lavrov S.V. – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation (head of the delegation),” the presidential decree says.
The President also included in the delegation Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin, Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky.
The opening of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly will take place on September 5, 2023. Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, was elected President of the session for the following year. He said he would focus on “peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability.”
