Lavrov: West speculates on the topic of Ukraine and diverts attention from the Middle East

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting of the UN Security Council that the West is “grossly speculating” on the topic of Ukraine, diverting attention from the Middle East.
“Americans and Europeans are grossly speculating on the Ukrainian issue, trying to blackmail and threaten to drag developing countries to their side and thereby divert their attention from the problems of the Middle East and other regions of the Global South,” Lavrov said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, crises become “a victim of double standards and colonial instincts of the West, which is obsessed with selfish interests to dictate its demands to the whole world, ignoring the culture and traditions of other peoples.”
On April 24, Lavrov arrived in New York to take part as chairman in the meetings of the UN Security Council, which are taking place on April 25 and 26. On the same day the minister spoke out for expanding the composition of the UN Security Council, as “the West is represented too strongly in it.”
Lavrov also toldthat the April 25 meeting on the situation in the Middle East, which the Israeli delegation left, was not of an anti-Israeli nature. “This meeting was held on the basis of an item on the agenda of the Security Council, which has been on this agenda for decades, and the Palestinian issue is the oldest conflict that cannot be resolved in any way and by no one,” the minister said.
As part of the event, one of the journalists asked Lavrov if Russia had responded to a letter from the UN Secretary General addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin about expanding and extending the grain deal. “As for the letter that the Secretary General handed over to President Putin yesterday, I hope it hasn’t leaked because it’s a personal correspondence between the head of the UN and the head of a UN member state… This will mean another attempt to put pressure on the situation , which is not allowed and which is led to a dead end by our Western colleagues,” Lavrov replied.
