Lavrov: I will serve my country as long as needed

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during an online forum in Doha, answered a question from one of the journalists about how long the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry plans to hold this post, given that in March 2024 it will be 20 years since he took office.
Lavrov first said that he did not quite understand why he was being asked such a question.
Then he did answer with a short phrase: “I serve my country as long as my country needs me.”
Let us recall that Sergei Lavrov began working at the USSR Foreign Ministry in 1972. In April 1992, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia. From 1994 to 2004, he served as Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN and the UN Security Council. Lavrov was appointed head of the Russian Foreign Ministry on March 9, 2004.
