The history of a large family that crossed the Russian-Finnish border on January 17 through the Lyutta checkpoint in Kostomuksha is followed by our regional publication karel.mk.ru. As it turned out, the family with three children actually turned to the Russian authorities for political asylum.
The arriving citizens of Latvia named the actions of the guardianship authorities of this country as the reason for their act. Pro-Russian sentiments in their family allegedly became the reason why the Latvian guardianship authorities threatened to take their children away from them.
The Karelian Commissioner for Children’s Rights Gennady Saraev was connected to the issue.
Now the family is accommodated in one of the Kostomuksha hotels, the necessary assistance will be provided.
According to the current regulations, a decision on an application for political asylum must be made within three months.
