Latvia is closing one of two checkpoints on the border with Belarus, the government of the republic reported.
“The Cabinet of Ministers supported the suspension of the Silene checkpoint, taking into account the large number of cases of illegal crossing of the Latvian-Belarusian border,” the statement says.
It is clarified that the work of the Pyaternieki checkpoint on the border of Latvia and Belarus will continue. According to the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers, in September border guards prevented 1,773 attempts to enter the republic, and in August a total of 1,615 such attempts were prevented.
16 September Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland Mariusz Kaminski announced tender for the construction of an electronic fence on the border with Belarus on the Bug River. He specified that its length will be 172 km.
In September, all Baltic countries closed the entry into the country of cars registered in Russia. This happened after the European Commission (EC) published an explanation on the import of Russian vehicles into EU countries. According to the document, Russian transport, regardless of whether it is used for private or commercial purposes, can be arrested.
Later, the EC clarified that in addition to cars, Russians are also prohibited from importing suitcases, laptops, smartphones, cosmetics, etc. into the EU. This will be regarded as prohibited imports.
