Labor productivity in Russia fell by 3.6% in 2022, reported Interfax with reference to Rosstat data. This is the largest drop since 2009, when labor productivity fell by 4.1%. It is noted that the maximum drop in this indicator in 2022 was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the repair of cars and motorcycles – by 12.9%.

The indicator also decreased in the areas of manufacturing (3.3%), mining (3.4%), as well as in the field of water supply, sanitation, organization of waste collection and disposal (7.0%). The decrease in the field of transportation and storage was 4.5%, in the field of communications – 2.8%, in the field of professional, scientific and technical activities – 7%.

According to Rosstat, labor productivity growth in 2022 was observed only in agriculture and forestry (8.7%), construction (1.8%), hotels and catering (1.3%), as well as in the provision of electricity , gas and steam (0.8%).

In September, the Higher School of Economics published a study according to which more than half of Russian employees are not ready to work harder even with increased salaries, and some of them are already working to the limit of their capabilities. In terms of purchasing power parity (PPP), the Russian indicator is 1.6–2.4 times lower than in the United States and Western Europe, according to OECD data for 2020. At the same time, Russians work much more than their colleagues from other countries: compared to the USA by 100–180 hours per year, with France and the UK by 400–500 hours, with Germany the gap reaches 540–580 hours.
