Kursk Ombudsman demanded to ban foreign music in shopping centers and restaurants

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Kursk Region, Vladimir Firsov, on his VKontakte page, said that war veterans from Kursk sent him an appeal demanding to stop broadcasting foreign music in public places. According to him, the appeal was signed by more than 30 people.

The Ombudsman was asked to take measures to stop the broadcast of American and Western European songs in the Europe, Manege, MegaGrinn, Olimpiyskiy and Central Department Store shopping centers, as well as in the open areas of the Sea Horse and Old Tbilisi restaurants. According to the authors of the appeal, music “from unfriendly countries that sponsor Nazism” was used in the places listed on Victory Day.

Vladimir Firsov believes that the industry committees and ministries of Kursk and the Kursk region should think not only about the musical repertoire in public places, but also about the list of films in cinemas. According to the Ombudsman, “in this difficult time” it is necessary to start showing the Soviet painting “Russian Field”, filmed in 1971. “At the same time, the residents of the Kursk region would most likely go to the demonstration of this film and take part in the discussion of its content, despite the fact that everyone at home has computers with the Internet,” Mr. Firsov believes.

This is not the first time Vladimir Firsov has demanded a ban on the use of foreign music in public places. “At the same time, it was not about the immortal musical works of Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, foreign classical literature and masterpieces of painting. It was about the inadmissibility of “blind, slavish, stupid imitation of Western culture,” the Ombudsman explained. Taking into account the “extreme importance of the issue” and the need to protect traditional spiritual and moral values, culture and historical memory, Mr. Firsov submitted a new proposal to the authorities.
