Earlier it became known that such a gift for Christmas presented by the club owners “Mutabor”, where the party of blogger Anastasia Ivleeva was previously held. It was alleged that the relics were purchased from the Vatican with funds earned by the club.
“The relics, purchased with proceeds from a brothel or “night club,” were transferred to the Moscow Church of the Sign. Is this canonical?” – Kuraev writes in his blog.
Quoting Holy Scripture, he comes to the conclusion that such a gift is a violation of the canons. Thus, “no words of repentance were spoken” and “the donor did not abandon his shameful business.” Kuraev believes that it was not repentance, but an “advertising campaign.”
He also notes that it is impossible to justify receiving gifts from a “brothel” with a reminder “of the profession of Mary Magdalene,” since “in Orthodox tradition there is no information about Mary Magdalene as a prostitute.” As for the Magi and their gifts, “in the Gospel there are the words of an angel that they should not return to their previous path,” and this “is interpreted as a ban on their former profession.”
In the comments, most users agreed with Kuraev and negatively characterized the situation with the relics and the nightclub. At the same time, some drew attention to the fact that, in their words, “the bandits rebuilt so many churches, and then suddenly there was a scandal.” Kuraev did not participate in further discussion.
