Russian Tampa Bay Lightning hockey player Nikita Kucherov became the first Russian to score more than 120 points in two seasons of the National Hockey League. He managed to become the author of the achievement after four assists in the match with the San Jose Sharks, which ended in a victory for Kucherov’s team with a score of 4:1.
In addition, the Russian became the Tampa Bay Lightning record holder for the number of assists. He also became the first club player to score 15 points in four matches. This season he has 122 points, including 41 goals and 81 assists. He previously managed to overcome this figure in 2019, when he scored 128 points.
In the history of the NHL, only two Russian athletes managed to score 120 or more points – in the 1992/93 season, Alexander Mogilny scored 127 points for the Buffalo Sabers, Sergei Federov scored 120 times in the 1993/94 season, playing for the Detroit Red Wings.
Among current NHL players, only Edmonton’s Connor McDavid has surpassed the 120-point mark twice, scoring 123 points in the 2021-22 season and 153 in the 2022-23 season.
