Kremlin says Russia will take full part in BRICS summit

Russia will take full part in the BRICS summit in South Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will work directly at the summit site, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the event via video link, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“As for Russian President Vladimir Putin, he will take part via videoconference, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will work on site. Therefore, we proceed from the fact that Russia will take a full-fledged part in this summit,” Mr. Peskov said during the conference call.
According to him, there can be no question of any “reduced” format of Russia’s participation in the summit, since Russia is one of the founders of the alliance.
The upcoming BRICS summit will be held in Johannesburg on August 22-24. It will be visited by the leaders of China, Brazil and South Africa. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will come from Russia. Vladimir Putin decided not to go due to the fact that in South Africa he could be threatened with arrest by order of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC issued this warrant in March. On August 3, it became known that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also not take part in the summit in person, he will talk with other participants of the event via video link.
