The Kremlin has no concerns that the Russian military in Syria could be drawn into the Middle East conflict if it escalates. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on US strikes on targets in Syria.
“No, at the moment there are no such concerns. As for the strikes, of course, in general, this political tension and the Palestinian-Israeli war, of course, provokes tension in a broader context in the region. This is very bad,” Peskov told reporters.
On strikes on two targets in eastern Syria Pentagon reported 27th October. According to the US, these facilities are used by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and associated groups. The strikes were a response to attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria that began on October 17, the Pentagon added. As a result of these attacks, one American soldier died of a heart attack and another 21 were injured.
On October 25, US President Joe Biden said that he had notified Iran of Washington’s readiness to respond to attacks on US troops in the Middle East if attacks by groups continue. The day before, the Iranian Foreign Ministry warned the United States that a possible attack on Iran and its associated infrastructure would entail a response that would “surpass all imagination.”
