Kremlin: Russia has adapted to the sanctions regime

Russia has adapted to the sanctions and is not afraid of threats that the sanctions regime will last at least five years, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President.

He emphasized that Russia has been living under the sanctions regime for “more than a decade”, and therefore has already sufficiently adapted to it.

“Therefore, such time horizons as five years, of course, do not scare us at all, and it is quite easy to predict that attempts to contain our economy will continue,” he said.

According to Peskov, energetic measures are being taken that produce results and allow us to follow the path of development. He added that new packages of sanctions are being prepared, which Moscow is aware of. “You can argue a lot and question the effectiveness of these decisions. And we can only wait to see what else our opponents will come up with in this regard,” he added.

Earlier, EU Special Representative for Sanctions David O’Sullivan warned that sanctions against Russia would not be lifted even with the cessation of hostilities. “Get ready for five to ten years. I do not foresee any imminent lifting of sanctions to any significant extent, even if hostilities cease at some stage,” said He. According to him, the G7 countries are developing a new package of sanctions that will control the bypassing of the oil price ceiling.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries introduced large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to President Vladimir Putin, the purpose of the restrictions is to “make the people of Russia suffer” and thereby destabilize society from within. The head of state emphasized that the Russian economy and management system turned out to be much stronger than expected in the West.

On September 27, at a meeting with the government, Putin notedthat Russia can respond to sanctions by “de-bureaucratizing” and providing greater economic freedoms.
