Kotyakov: a four-day work week is possible, but subject to agreement with the employer

Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton Kotyakov told RIA Novosti that amendments to labor legislation to introduce a four-day work week in Russia are not necessary. According to him, this possibility already exists on the basis of an agreement between the employee and the employer.
Kotyakov noted that the temporary mode of work can be regulated within the framework of an employment contract, and no one is deprived of this opportunity at the present time with the consent of the employer. While there are occasional proposals for a four- or six-day work week, a compromise is the five-day work week, which is enshrined in legislation.
The minister noted that the existing regulatory framework allows the employer and employee to organize the working regime flexibly on the basis of an agreement. This may include a combined work schedule such as being in the office for three days and telecommuting for two days. A four-day or six-day work week is also possible. However, the employer must be prepared to pay extra pay for working overtime, Kotyakov explained.
