Last weekend, the final tournament of the Night Hockey League was held in Sochi, in which the Kostroma team Krasnye Krylia, playing in the League of Future Champions 40+ division, won a prize for the first time in 12 years of the Night League’s existence – so far the third – and returned to Kostroma with bronze medals.
The Night Hockey League is a truly amateur hockey tournament. There are 18 people in the Kostroma team from various social strata – workers, businessmen, engineers, former professional athletes … This is why it is called a night team because its members – men aged “slightly over 40” train and play at night, after work.
Once a week, the Red Wings gather at the Ice Arena in Kostroma, and train under the guidance of coaches from 11 pm to 1 am. Kostroma residents went to the League tournament three times, but they were lucky enough to get to the prize-winning place for the first time.
The Krasnye Krylia played 6 games in total. The first three of them – in the qualifying group – won. In the quarterfinals, they defeated the 2016 champion team from Smolensk, but in the semifinals they lost to the Koltsov hockey club from the Komi Republic, which eventually became the champion.
In the decisive match, the Kostroma team got together and confidently defeated the team from Karelia with a score of 3:0.
Next year Krasnye Krylia from Kostroma intend to fight for the first place and the title of champions.
