Art fencing championship of the Moscow region took place in Vidnoye

Four teams from Moscow and the region gathered for the art fencing championship in Vidnoye

Despite the spectacular costumes of the participants, theatricality of performances and musical accompaniment, art fencing is a real sport. It is divided into eight separate disciplines. And like any sport, there are competitions.

“Those who compete in this annual championship have the opportunity to qualify for the Moscow Region fencing team to participate in the All-Russian Championship,” explains Vladimir Sorokin, a member of the Vidnovskiy historical fencing and reconstruction club Citadel, a multiple champion of Russia. His team presented a touching and dynamic composition based on the historical events of the First World War.

Art fencing harmoniously combines sports, historical and theatrical fencing. Athletes say that it can be compared with rhythmic gymnastics in the world of fencing. They get here in different ways. For example, Ruslan Mamatazhiev from the Moscow club “Espada”, being already an accomplished athlete, coach, judge of the all-Russian category, master of sports in army hand-to-hand combat, once accidentally saw these bewitching battles on rapiers – and could not resist. Today he is the champion of Russia and the world champion, coach of the Moscow art fencing team. He has been participating in fights for nine years:

– Why are you so engrossed? Perhaps in childhood he did not finish playing musketeers. Only in childhood we did not know the fighting technique, but now we approach this competently.

Athletes – I would rather call them artists – from the Saberfighting Art studio decided to retell the surreal story of Alice from Wonderland in their own way, and to Japanese music. In their interpretation of the fairy tale, the twin girls explore this world while making strange discoveries. Drawing their lightsabers, they performed a group synchronized “shadow boxing” for which the audience rewarded them with applause.

The judge of the championship, Evgenia Baurov, evaluates the performances of the championship in five categories, including originality of the idea and artistry.

– I live in art fencing, I know everything about it, I develop it with all possible forces. In it, everyone can be realized not only as an actor, but also as an athlete – to receive a master of sports or a candidate. And this, in my opinion, is much more interesting and even more significant in terms of load, classes in a fitness club.

Four teams from Reutov, Vidnoye, Khimki and Moscow, more than twenty athletes, the intensity of emotions and excitement before each performance, rehearsed to the slightest movement of the fight. As a result, the hosts of the championship, Vidnovchane, won prizes in the nominations “Solo”, “Exercise” and “Free Duet”. The winners have a chance to get to the Russian Championship, which will be held in the capital in June.
