Do you know what a very common addiction is sometimes much more harmful than alcoholism and drug addiction combined?
No, we are not talking about gambling at all, although, according to some experts, it is the most ineradicable of all bad habits. The passion we are talking about is much more dangerous both because of the scale of its spread and because of the severity of the damage it causes.
To verify this, in all honesty of intentions, try to remember (without prejudice, only for yourself) how many times you tried to act again somewhere in the same way that previously led to failure. Hoping that before it was just unlucky, but now it will definitely work out. Or, as they say, “stepped on the same rake” in a different way.
If, as a result, everything was limited, figuratively speaking, only to “bumps on the forehead” that pass over time, then you still got off lightly. However, when those in power begin to step on the rake, the consequences are from severe to catastrophic.
For example, on January 24, 1904*, two days before the start of the Russo-Japanese War, Emperor Nicholas II signed a decree on partial mobilization, which marked the beginning of a series of such replenishment of the Russian army. And despite the fact that everyone in Russia absorbs with their mother’s milk the conviction that the main thing in the social structure of the country is justice, it was precisely this principle that was soon violated during mobilizations. The lesson did not go well at all, and during the Great Patriotic War, many gross miscalculations were made in organizing the recruitment of citizens of the country for the labor front. About this article “Gross perversions were allowed during mobilization”.
Just as pernicious are convulsive attempts to correct an unpleasant situation with improvised means. And this is very well known. But 95 years ago, on October 10, 1927, at the All-Union Congress of Working Women and Peasants, among other ideas that shocked Soviet women, the idea of their military service was also voiced. Although before my eyes there was still a sad example of female combat units of the 1917 model of the year – “Too many panties”.
And a vivid example of how they rushed from one extreme to another is the issue of military training for schoolchildren, including the youngest ones. All details are in the post. “For military physical training of students”.
In the 1920s and 1930s, ignoring simple but important issues over and over again led to the failure of campaigns to procure a valuable export product – mushrooms. And even when historical experience seems to be taken into account, upon closer examination it turns out that the ways in which it was possible to stop the bloody war were forgotten or ignored. About these tricks – material “The Americans were excited”.
Well, in the end, we have to repeat once again that history is, albeit sometimes not always simple, but extremely valuable guide to organizing life in the country. And by no means a propaganda baton endlessly remade to suit the current situation. Anyone who does not understand this will inevitably step on the same rake over and over again.
