Military expert, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, retired colonel Yuri Knutov commented on reports that some Western countries are going to provide their airfields for basing F-16 fighters, which will be transferred to Ukraine, and assessed Russia’s capabilities to fight these aircraft.

“The F-16 is a good aircraft, but it’s outdated,” leads words of the Lenta.ru expert.

Knutov noted that various anti-aircraft missile systems that are in the arsenal of the Russian army will be able to successfully operate against this fighter. According to him, we are also talking about systems still developed in the Soviet Union.

Knutov recalled that the Syrian military was able to shoot down a modernized Israeli F-16 Sufa version several years ago using the old Soviet S-200 complex. He concluded that if systems such as the S-200 work on the F-16, then the S-300, the Buk-M2 and many others will work.
