The International Criminal Court (ICC) is a fictitious institution, says Andrei Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building. He called the reaction of the Russian authorities to the ICC unnecessary. This is how Mr. Klishas commented on the proposal of State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to ban the activities of the ICC in the country.
“The ICC is a fictitious institution, its decisions are insignificant, it does not create legal consequences for Russia. The legislative reaction of the Russian authorities to this corrupt and incompetent quasi-court will be unnecessary,” Andrey Klishas told TASS.
Mr. Volodin also offered introduce responsibility for “facilitating and supporting” the ICC and conclude agreements with “friendly” countries providing for non-cooperation with the ICC. He announced his initiative after the ICC issued a warrant for the arrest of Vladimir Putin and Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. The court ruled that they were “allegedly responsible for war crimes related to the illegal deportation of the population (children)” from Ukraine. Germany, Armenia And Austria have already reaffirmed their commitment to comply with the decisions of the ICC.
