In the new academic year, new classes will appear in educational institutions of the Belgorod region, which borders on Ukraine. Children from the age of three will be taught in a playful way to recognize explosive objects and be able to seek cover during shelling. Schools will introduce daily 15-minute briefings and trainings on how to act in emergency situations. The Minister of Education of the Belgorod Region Andrey Milekhin said that this is one of the conditions for returning to full-time education.

The Minister of Education of the Belgorod Region Andrey Milekhin said that on September 1, classes in civil defense will start in all educational institutions of the region. According to him, this is one of the conditions for returning to full-time education. Recall that due to shelling from Ukraine and the evacuation of a number of settlements, the academic year in schools, colleges and technical schools of 11 municipalities of the region was held in a remote format.

The new lessons are based on the First Aid and Safety Lessons programs developed and coordinated with the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Mr. Milekhin says that the departments have prepared methodological recommendations and presentations for teachers for theoretical classes, as well as plans for practical programs: “It is important for us that no one is confused and everyone can act correctly.”

Safety classes will begin in kindergartens. Pupils aged three to five years will work out daily evacuation routes in a playful way, as well as learn safe behavior on the streets and traffic rules. Children between the ages of five and seven will receive a Preschool Safety Notebook with information on how to behave during shelling, identify explosive objects and provide first aid. “The notebook is being approved by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation,” Andrey Milekhin specified. “It can become the basis for the development of such materials for the whole country, if necessary.” Officials are also preparing visualizations of the contents of the notebook in special videos.

In Belgorod schools, as part of life safety lessons (OBZh), initial military training will begin on September 1. In addition, every day before classes, children will undergo 15-minute briefings and trainings on safe behavior during shelling and emergencies. They will be held by class teachers together with invited experts. Similar fifteen minutes will appear in the schedule of students of institutions of secondary vocational education and additional education. And for higher education, in addition to the life safety course, an elective “Protection in emergency situations” will be introduced.

In August, on the basis of the Institute for the Development of Education, short-term training of kindergarten teachers, class teachers and curators of student groups will begin. Later it will be passed by narrow specialists of kindergartens, teachers and trainers-teachers. Employees of universities will continue their classes at the educational and methodological center of civil defense under the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that new educational programs should form the necessary skills – in particular, teach children to recognize dangerous and safe places: “A car, for example, is a dangerous place, it can catch fire or be blocked. You must also be trained in first aid. Events in Shebekino (part of the population of the district center was evacuated after mass shelling.— “b”) showed that having a skill saves a person’s life. Informing children should be all-encompassing – home, street, class hour. All this should fly off the teeth of children. According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, new educational programs should have 100% coverage. The authorities will begin checking the readiness of kindergartens and schools to implement new programs at the end of this week.

Anna Melanina, head of the laboratory of practical psychology at Voronezh State University, says that for a child, more than for an adult, it matters how familiar and familiar what is happening around: “If it is the preparation and repetition of certain actions that are supposed to be, so that the child gets used to, understands and Don’t worry, that might be a good idea. Here you need to strike a delicate balance – not to scare children by creating additional fears for them, and accustom them to a clear algorithm of actions.
