Khimik voluntarily left the elite of Russian rugby

A resonant event happened in Russian rugby. During the long break, which lasts from October to May, the number of participants in the elite division has decreased. RK Khimik from Dzerzhinsk, which made its debut in the PARI-Russian Rugby Championship in 2022, announced its withdrawal from the championship. Before joining the elite, the black-and-greens became silver medalists in the Major League and, literally in a month, assembled a team to start at a high level, but they clearly overestimated their capabilities. In the first season, Khimik took last place and finished the championship with zero points.
The 2023-2024 season was marked for RK Khimik with the first points scored in the PARI-Russian Rugby Championship, but the black-and-greens did not have enough for more. According to the results of the first part of the 2023-2024 season, “Khimik” settled in 9th position, gaining 2 points, which was the signal for the team’s withdrawal. The club’s management stated that Khimik could not live up to the expectations placed on it by sponsors. According to their plan, Khimik was supposed to increase the popularity of rugby in the Nizhny Novgorod region and gain a foothold in the middle of the standings, but none of this happened.
Most likely, Khimik will again compete in the Russian Championship among Major League teams.
