Kazakhstan suspends operation of yandex.kz domain due to violation of rules

In Kazakhstan, the operation of the domain name www.yandex.kz was suspended due to violation of the rules. About this portal NUR.KZ informed at the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic.

“From August 9, 2023, the operation of the www.yandex.kz domain name was suspended for placing an Internet resource on hardware and software systems outside the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the message says.

The agency noted that the suspension of the resource is provided for by subparagraph 6 of paragraph 16 of the Rules for registration, use and distribution of domain names in the space of the Kazakhstan segment of the Internet, approved by order of the Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry. According to the document, paragraph 16 of the Rules provides for cases of suspension of the use of a domain name. There are seven in total. In addition to placing Internet resources on hardware and software systems outside the territory of the republic, suspension can also be introduced in the absence of a security certificate, the presence of information about phishing, etc.

In “Yandex” portal Tengrinews.kz declaredthat are working to restore access and are negotiating with the regulator. “The yandex.kz domain was partitioned by a local registrar. We are working to restore the availability of our services in Kazakhstan. <…> Yandex always adheres to the requirements of local legislation in all countries of its presence. We are in dialogue with the local regulator and registrar to resolve this issue,” the company said.

Later TASS with reference to the press service of “Yandex” informedthat the company’s domain and services are available in Kazakhstan. “The yandex.kz domain is working again – Yandex services in Kazakhstan are available to users as usual,” the company said.

According to the website Downradar, users started having problems accessing www.yandex.kz after 13:00. Failures were reported from Almaty, Astana, Karaganda and other cities, including Russian ones.
