Attackers began to “hijack” accounts in the Telegram messenger through phishing mailing lists with an offer to get acquainted with a fake list of citizens who will allegedly be sent for mobilization on February 1-3, 2023. This was confirmed by the chief expert of Kaspersky Lab Sergey Golovanov, transmits TASS.
“The mailing has been going on for the last few days. From messages in Telegram, users are directed to a site that lures data to enter messengers, ”said Golovanov.
The day before, on December 12, In2security appeared in the Telegram channel information that fraudsters began stealing accounts under the pretext of getting acquainted with the “list of people who will be mobilized on February 1-3.” The channel noted that “this is the most massive phishing attack on Russian Telegram users for the entire existence of the messenger.”
Golovanov explained that if the user enters data or a one-time access code by clicking on the above link, the person may lose the account. At the same time, scammers can send phishing mailings already on his behalf to the list of contacts, he added.
The chief expert of Kaspersky Lab urged users not to enter their data, including the access code. He recommended setting up two-factor authentication, avoiding unfamiliar links, and installing a security solution that allows you to block phishing sites.
January 9, press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the role of Telegram channels in the dissemination of information should not be exaggerated, information about the beginning of a new wave of mobilization is a rumor. He added that the primary source is the official government headed by the president.
