Kaspersky Lab reported a hacker attack on Russian defense institutions

A Chinese-speaking cyber group attacked government and defense institutions in the Russian Federation and Eastern European countries, as well as Afghanistan, several times earlier this year. This is reported by TASS, citing a message from the press service of Kaspersky Lab. Experts suggest that the purpose of the attacks was cyber espionage.
“At the beginning of 2022, Kaspersky Lab experts recorded a wave of targeted attacks on defense enterprises and government institutions in Afghanistan, Russia and a number of countries in Eastern Europe. In total, during the investigation, experts identified attacks on more than a dozen organizations, ”the press service said in a statement.
They also stressed that the cyber attacks could be related to the activities of the Chinese-speaking cyber group TA428.
In some cases of hacker attacks, the IT infrastructure of defense and state enterprises was completely captured. Cyber scammers used phishing emails that contained information that was not available in public sources. Experts explain that hackers could use the full name of employees of the enterprise who work with confidential information.
