The head coach of the Rostov football club Valery Karpin commented on the ban for the team to register new players, which was introduced by the International Football Federation (FIFA) because of Rostov’s debt to the Swedish Norrköping. According to Mr. Karpin, because of these restrictions, all Rostov’s plans for the participation of football players in the upcoming matches were “fucked up.”
“We learned the day before yesterday that they might not allow the application of newcomers. Of course, this influenced the preparations for the match with Fakel. And not only. We now have three games in six days, so all the plans for the participation of the players in these matches … They were, but they, of course, were fucked up. What is, is, ”said Mr. Karpin on the air of the Match Premier TV channel (quote from Sport24).
FIFA imposed sanctions on the Russian team due to a debt to the Swedish Norrköping for the transfer of Pontus Almqvist, who moved to Rostov in 2020 and suspended the contract with the club in the spring of 2022. However, Norrköping was unable to receive the money transferred for the transfer and sent it back to Russia.
Club President Artashes Harutyunyants tied up refusal of the bank to accept money with political motives. “Our club repeatedly tried to solve the problem, paid the necessary amount in full, but was faced with a refusal from the bank to accept money for political reasons. Rostov is still ready to fulfill all obligations if there are no barriers on the way, ”he explained. Due to the FIFA ban, Rostov was unable to register four newcomers – Mohammad Mohebi, Roman Akbashev, Alexei Ionov and Evgeny Chernov.
