On the island of Siau, off the coast of Indonesian North Sulawesi, the eruption of the Karangetang volcano of the third degree began, informs Center for Volcanology and Geological Risks.
The volcano coordinator of the Center, Oktora Prambada, said that due to the steep slopes of the hill, piles of volcanic ejecta quickly find themselves on the ground.
It is known that the lava flowing down the slopes formed six directions, and the length of the flow is approximately one kilometer. According to the source, the lava is moving towards the Batang, Batuawang and Beha Barat rivers.
Note that in the period from February 2 to February 7, passive emissions of ash and steam to a height of up to 100 meters were noticeable above the Karangetang volcano.
The scientists also stressed that the number of earthquakes in the region of volcanic activity has increased from February 6 to the present day, February 10: an average of 43 to 62 tremors every day.
