The lawyer of the victim, Larisa Guseva, said that the defense of doctors from Kaliningrad, Elena Belaya and Elina Sushkevich, convicted in the case of the murder of a baby, appealed the verdict.

Earlier, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced Belaya to 9.5 years in prison, Sushkevich to nine years. Both were banned from practicing medicine for three years after serving their sentences. Belaya was found guilty of organizing the murder of a child, Sushkevich was considered his executor.

The court decided that the doctors had given the baby magnesium sulfate at a dosage many times higher than that allowed for newborns. The motive for the crime was the unwillingness to worsen the statistics of the medical institution.

The professional community also demanded a second review of the doctors’ case and insisted on their innocence.

In defense of Elina Sushkevich and Elena Belaya spoke President of the National Medical Chamber Leonid Roshal. He stated that he was ashamed of this trial.
