Kaliningrad authorities summed up the sports results of the year

The sports results of the year were summed up in Kaliningrad on December 19. The event “For the physical and moral health of the nation” was attended by city mayor Oleg Aminov, head of administration Elena Dyatlova, vice-governor and five-time Olympic champion Natalya Ishchenko, athletes, coaches and everyone involved in the world of sports.

This year, Kaliningrad residents took an active part in city projects – “Sports Weekend”, “Train with Us”, “All-Russian Walking Day” and many others. Open training sessions took place in parks and squares, on sports grounds, and on embankments.

The variety of types of physical activity is supplemented with new projects from year to year. The administration supports them by providing grants. This year, six organizations received 1 million 200 thousand rubles. A network of sports organizations has been created on the territory of the municipality.

As part of the event, Oleg Aminov addressed the guests. He thanked all the athletes and coaching staff for the work done.

“I would like to begin my speech with words of sincere gratitude, respect and admiration for our athletes and coaching staff. I would like to say a huge thank you for making Kaliningrad one of the most sporting cities in Russia. Our tournaments and our competitions are increasing their status, becoming a higher rank and reaching the federal level,” – noted Aminov.

The head of the Kaliningrad administration, Elena Dyatlova, also addressed those gathered with a welcoming speech. She recalled that the city authorities are doing everything possible to make sports available to everyone.

“We lived through another year, another sports year. We rejoiced at sports victories and were worried when athletes took part in big competitions. Together with you we supported Baltika and Lokomotiv. We have already learned and are able to build sports grounds and bicycle paths, improve the city’s infrastructure so that, in addition to sporting achievements, sports are available to all residents of the city of Kaliningrad,” – said Dyatlova.

The efforts of Kaliningrad athletes and coaches are visible to the naked eye, says vice-governor and five-time Olympic champion Natalya Ishchenko. They work as a team for a good result.

“Kaliningrad and all institutions play an important role in the development of physical culture and sports in our region. The coaching staff and athletes really work as a team for the sake of results. Their results are visible to the naked eye both based on the results of competitions, including world-class ones, and based on the results of infrastructure development,” — said Ishchenko.

This year, six new sites have appeared, Natalya Ishchenko recalled. They are all unique. All land plots where such spaces could still be created were analyzed. According to the vice-governor, through joint efforts it will be possible to implement all the big plans.

Almost every second Kaliningrad resident goes in for sports and physical activity on a regular basis. The city government supports gifted athletes and their coaches at various levels. Thus, in the 2023-2024 academic year, 67 people became scholarship recipients of the Kaliningrad City district.
