Kalimatov: a unique system of work with elderly patients is connected with the traditions of Ingushetia

The head of Ingushetia, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov, explained why hospitalization of geriatric patients is practiced in Ingushetia along with caring relatives.

A group of geriatric specialists arrived in Ingushetia, headed by the head of the Department for the Implementation of the Functions of the National Medical Research Center for the Geriatrics Profile of the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of the Russian National Research Medical University. The specialists paid special attention to the unique opportunity that elderly patients have in Ingushetia: we are talking about the fact that they can be hospitalized together with caring relatives – this practice is really not common in other regions. The head of Ingushetia, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov, explained this by observing local traditions. According to him, the role of older people in the republic has always been very high. Therefore, as Kalimatov noted, relatives believe that they themselves should look after their elderly relatives.

“There is nothing more reprehensible among the people than a bad attitude towards the elderly. Therefore, in Ingushetia, it is unrealistic for relatives to agree to entrust their elderly relative even to medical workers. They consider it their direct duty to constantly be near and care for him. Realizing this, it was decided to hospitalize patients of the geriatric center together with a caring relative,” explained Kalimatov .

At the moment there are 5 geriatric rooms and 20 beds of this profile in Ingushetia. The geriatric service of the region has been fully established. For the entire period of operation of the centers, 920 visits were registered, 470 patients are permanently registered.
