In December 2022, about 200 Russian servicemen were released from Ukrainian captivity. On the eve of the New Year, 82 servicemen returned to Russia. This was announced by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.
“On the eve of the New Year, thanks to laborious and painstaking work, we managed to release another 82 Russian servicemen,” Mr. Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel.
“With the active assistance of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, who oversees the work of the deputies in this direction, in December last year we managed to release about 200 Russian servicemen,” he added.
In November and December, Russia and Ukraine held a series of prisoner exchanges. At the Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine reportedthat in just 2022, 1,596 people were returned from Russian captivity. The Russian Defense Ministry did not disclose such information.
