Is there a demand for designer iPhones in Russia? Wylsacom tech blogger Valentin Petukhov notes that there are often buyers for such devices:
“Like any similar product, such a gadget has its own very sophisticated buyer. But if we talk about larger-scale options, then, oddly enough, these are the Arab and Chinese markets. There, in general, all this is held in high esteem: gold, so that everything is done as expensively as possible. This is in the Asian mentality – you need to stand out, and just an iPhone is not enough, accordingly, such strange hybrids occur.
Plus, it’s a great gift for those people who have everything. I know that Lionel Messi, when the national team won the World Cup, gave the entire team exclusive iPhones as a sign of attention.
But if we are talking about such a unique specimen, then this is often stated as an idea, and this phone most likely does not exist. These are renderings that visualize the model as it will look if it is created. That is, if tomorrow there is still someone who wants to buy such an iPhone, then it will be assembled in a single copy.
It’s clear that something else may appear over time, but there will only be one such gadget, and that’s it. Here we are talking about exclusivity, there is a completely different pricing format.”
Sales of Apple’s new flagship smartphones around the world started on September 22. There are no official supplies of American company products in Russia. However, the smartphone is included in the assortment of domestic retailers. Prices for the Pro line start from 160 thousand rubles, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will cost from 180 thousand rubles. up to 250 thousand rubles.
At the same time, the demand for new devices from Apple from Russians is low, notes business analyst of the Fplus IT holding Arthur Makhlayuk:
“So far, the iPhone 15 does not occupy a very large share of all smartphones of the American corporation. But we don’t have much data yet, since they’ve been on sale for literally a week and a half. So far we are talking about 3 thousand devices.
This is not to say that the demand is absolutely incredible. There was certainly a stir, but due to the fact that the iPhone 15 does not differ too much from the iPhone 14, it is bought mainly by some adherents of the Apple brand. At the same time, apparently, not very many of them were brought to Russia either.”
However, the price is not the only thing that scares away Russians, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors emphasize. Demand is also affected by reports of defects in the new iPhones, e.g. case overheating. Some consumers do not want to take risks, since Russians do not have the opportunity to take advantage of the official guarantee.
