Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara became world champions in figure skating in pairs

Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara won the pair competition at the World Figure Skating Championships. This is the first time in the history of the championship when athletes from Japan have won gold in pair skating. In total, the couple scored 222.16 points for the short and free programs (80.72 + 141.44).
In second place are US skaters Alexa Knierim and Brandon Fraser. According to the results of their performances, they received 217.48 points (74.64 points for the short program and 142.84 points for the free program). Third were the Italians Sare Conti and Niccolò Machii (208.08; 73.24 + 134.84).
This season, Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara also won two ISU Grand Prix events and the Series Final. At the World Championships last year, the Japanese couple won silver.
The 2023 World Figure Skating Championships will be held from March 20 to 26 on the ice of the Saitama Super Arena in the Japanese city of Saitama. Skaters compete in men’s and women’s single skating, pair skating and ice dancing as part of the championship. Russian athletes do not participate in this championship.
