Japan receives first SLIM image after landing on the Moon
The first image from the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) module after its landing on the Moon was received by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
The image was taken using the LEV-1 robot. The Japanese side confirmed that the communication function between the LEV-1 and LEV-2 robots is “working normally.”
In the picture, as TASS clarifies, a SLIM module with an upward-facing motor is visible – this indicates a non-standard landing, which is why the solar cells of the device cannot work.
SLIM soft-landed on the lunar surface on January 19. At the same time, experts admitted that the module could “land” on its side, which caused problems with the power supply.
The H-IIA rocket with the module launched from the Tanegashima Launch Center (Kagoshima Prefecture) on September 7, 2023.
