Izvestia: Greenpeace asked to be recognized as a foreign agent

State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Yakubovsky proposed to recognize the environmental organization Greenpeace as a foreign agent. He sent a corresponding deputy’s request to the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General’s Office. According to the deputy, the organization acts “not in the interests of Russia and its inhabitants.” This was reported “News”.

According to the publication, Alexander Yakubovsky insists that Greenpeace is working against Russia, as its activists in Finland asked to refuse Russian gas supplies, and also blocked the unloading of LNG from Russia. In his letter, he also claims that in 2020 the organization received 212 million rubles. from the non-profit fund Greenpeace International, another 60 million from Greenpeace Netherlands, and about 2 million from foreign citizens and a private foreign fund.

“There are understandable and clear criteria for recognition as a foreign agent. If foreigners are in the governing bodies of the company, and officially two-thirds of the funding is from foreign sources, it is fair to believe that the organization does not conduct its activities in the interests of Russia and its residents, ”Izvestia quotes the words of Alexander Yakubovsky.

The Russian branch of Greenpeace has been operating since 1992. Supporters of the organization carry out environmental actions around the world and oppose climate change. Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, activists have carried out actions against the supply of Russian fuel to the West. In May they prevented tanker Andromeda with Russian fuel to enter the port of Great Britain.
