Izvestia: CryWiper virus attacked city halls and courts in Russian regions

“News”referring to Kaspersky Lab, reported that in several subjects of the Russian Federation, mayor’s offices and courts were attacked by a new computer virus CryWiper.
It is specified that this virus destroys the contents of files and leads to the appearance of ransom messages on the computer.
“CryWiper corrupted the files contained on the hard drive and also asked for a ransom. In the explanatory note, the hackers indicated an email address and a bitcoin wallet address to which more than 500,000 rubles should be transferred,” said Fyodor Sinitsyn, an expert at Kaspersky Lab.
He clarified that if the ransom is paid, the user may lose their data. After the transfer of funds, the files may disappear without the possibility of recovery.
At the same time, CryWiper attacks files of all formats, with the exception of those responsible for the operation of the system itself. The virus primarily affects archives, user documents and databases.
