Izvestia: Apple devices will be sent abroad for warranty repairs

Apple will not renew contracts with Russian Authorized Service Centers (ASCs) that expire at the end of March. To fulfill warranty obligations in relation to customers from Russia, the corporation will create a representative office abroad. It is reported “News” with reference to sources.
Since the company will no longer interact directly with Russian ASCs, the warranty period for Apple equipment from April may increase to two months. Devices that require repair will be sent to foreign representative offices, with which the company will conclude a contract, the source said. At the same time, only equipment delivered before March 2022 or purchased outside of Russia will be serviced.
Most likely, the main function of Russian ASCs will be to receive a gadget in need of service and issue it after a repair made abroad. Mark “Izvestia”.
“A company authorized by Apple to work with Russia will assume all obligations to provide warranty support. And then this company will conclude agreements with Russian authorized centers, where the user can apply for warranty support. It’s just that another legal entity will directly carry out the repairs,” said Anna Sarbukova, leading legal adviser at the EBR law firm.
On February 26, the US expanded the list of sanctions against Russia to include smartphones priced above $300. On March 3, Interfax wrote that Russian ASCs received a letter from Apple informing them of the temporary termination of warranty service for MacBooks and iPads. The head of the press service of the re:Store chain of stores, Lyudmila Semushina, told Kommersant FM that they had not received such statements from the company and were ready to continue repairing the devices.
