“It’s impressive”: Putin announced a jump in cybercrime in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a speech at an expanded board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that over the past year, the number of cybercrimes in the country in 2022 exceeded half a million and amounted to 25% of the total number of crimes.
According to the head of state, one of the “unconditional priorities” of the department’s work is the fight against crime using information technology. The Russian leader specified that by the end of 2022, the number of such crimes exceeded half a million and amounted to a quarter of all criminal offenses. Putin added that “this is, of course, impressive.”
The President emphasized the importance of constantly informing citizens about new types of such crimes, learning how to protect themselves from such crimes, as well as improving the digital literacy of Russians.
