It will be possible to publish games with content from AI on Steam – Kommersant

American company Valve updated rules of the digital video game store Steam, as a result of which it became possible to publish the majority of games in which part of the content was created using artificial intelligence (AI). Valve has been talking to game developers for months and believes the new rules reflect the current AI landscape.
The new questionnaire for developers will need to indicate whether AI was used during development and in the gameplay itself, both in pre-generation of content and in real-time generation, that is, during the game.
Developers will have to promise that the game’s content does not contain anything illegal or infringing, and the game itself must be consistent with its marketing materials. Gamers will be able to report illegal content in games where it is generated in real time. It will not be possible to publish games only for adults with real-time AI generation.
Previously Valve announcedthat during the New Year holidays, the digital distribution service for video games Steam reached an absolute record for the number of simultaneous online users. On January 7, there were over 33.7 million users online, almost 10.7 million of them were playing games simultaneously. Also in 2023, a record number of new games were released on Steam – 14.53 thousand.
