It was proposed to veto the too small font of instructions for medications

Citizens are unable to read them
Social activists suggested increasing the font size in medication instructions to at least 3 mm. In their opinion, drug manufacturers, to save money, print the attached information in such a small format that citizens are not able to read them even if they are wearing glasses.
As MK learned, activists submitted a petition on the website of public initiatives for consideration on the preparation of instructions for the use of medicines. The authors of the idea point out that in some cases the font in accompanying documents for medicines is completely unreadable due to its microscopic size – about 1 mm. This problem, in the opinion of popular experts, is quite serious, since it concerns medications that should be taken in strict accordance with the instructions. An unreadable font can lead to incorrect use, which in turn is fraught with serious consequences. Social activists propose to make changes to the “Requirements for instructions for the medical use of drugs.” In paragraph 11 of these requirements there is a recommendation for font size – “not less than 8 point size, so that the lowercase character “x” is at least 1.4 mm in height, the distance between lines is at least 3 mm.” Activists believe that the recommended 1.4 mm height is, at the very least, a disregard for people. And since this is advisory in nature, manufacturers often do not pay attention to this point at all.
The petition also notes that in many cases, the drug users are elderly people with low vision. Manufacturers should not make a profit by deteriorating the quality of health of people in old age. Activists propose changing the current requirements. The document proposes to set not a recommended, but a mandatory font size – no less than 12 point size, i.e. about 3 mm.
