It was decided to update the rules for assigning ranks to the Cossacks

For this, a table of correspondences of the Cossack table of ranks to state officials has been developed.

The Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs plans to update the rules for promotion of Cossacks who have class ranks, diplomatic ranks, as well as military or special ranks. The draft of the corresponding order, as well as the table of correspondences of the Cossack ranks to the ranks, ranks and ranks of the military, police, civil servants, diplomats and prosecutors, has been submitted for public discussion.

As it became known to MK, there are 13 ranks in the Cossack table of ranks, from the order (corresponds to the rank of secretary of the state civil service of the Russian Federation of the 3rd class, the ranks of private and corporal in the army, as well as private police) to the Cossack general (corresponds to the rank of adviser to the Russian Federation 3rd class and above, diplomatic rank adviser 1st class and above, and the rank of major general in the army, police, justice, internal and customs services and above).

Cossacks will be assigned ranks based on this table. The document states that the next rank can be one step higher than the corresponding rank or rank. So, for example, if a Cossack has the rank of captain, counselor of justice or lawyer of the 1st class (corresponds to the rank of sub-caesaul), then he can be assigned the rank of captain (corresponds to the rank of major, prosecutor’s rank junior counselor of justice, etc.). True, there are limitations. So, if the applicant is no longer in the service, his new Cossack rank should not be higher than that of the ataman of the farm, village, city Cossack society, of which he is a member. If he is still serving, then his new rank should not be higher than that of the ataman of his Cossack army: this would violate the chain of command.

The rules will affect only members of the Cossack military societies that are included in the State Register.

Today in Russia there are 12 registered military Cossack societies and 2 district Cossack societies. At the end of last year, the total number of registered Cossacks was more than 160 thousand people. The largest registered troops are the Kuban (more than 56 thousand Cossacks) and the Great Don Army (more than 36 thousand Cossacks). On November 27, 2018, all Cossack troops, both registered and district, were united into the All-Russian Cossack Society (VsKO). A year later, the President of Russia, by his decrees, approved the charter of the VSKO and appointed Cossack General Nikolai Daluda as chieftain.

Today, the Cossacks are involved in the protection of public order, including in Moscow (a total of 18,811 Cossacks are involved in this in Russia), the protection of the state border of the Russian Federation (1,308 people), the prevention, elimination of emergencies and the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters (4,219 people), participation in environmental activities (4924 people), protection of objects of state and municipal property (4539 people).
